Venezuelan Study of Cardiometabolic Health (EVESCAM)

The EVESCAM study was the first national representative, population-based, observational, cross-sectional, and cluster sampling study, designed to evaluate cardiometabolic risk factors among subjects aged ≥ 20 years in Venezuela from July 2014 to January 2017.

The aim was to determine the prevalence of cardio-metabolic risk factors in adults in a national sample of Venezuela.

The effect of the Venezuelan situation on the cardiovascular effect of the population is unknown, especially, how this environment impacted the population across diverse socioeconomic status.

The aims of the study were:

  • To assess the change between 2015/2017 and 2018/2019 in 10-year fatal cardiovascular disease risk stratified by socioeconomic status in Venezuela. We hypothesize that populations with lower socioeconomic status will have a larger increase in 10-year cardiovascular risk during this period.
  • To quantify the change between 2015/2017 and 2018/2019 in individual risk factors/behaviors
